Ming-sum Tsui is a professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Associate Dean, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. He has more than 30 years of experience in practising, teaching and researching social work. Before joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, he was Service Supervisor of Development and Health Services of Hong Kong Christian Service. Ming-sum set up the first community-based family service centre and the first counselling centre for psychotropic substance abusers in Hong Kong. He also supervised a polyclinic and was responsible for program development, fund raising, program evaluation, and staff development of Hong Kong Christian Service. Ming-sum received his MSW from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. He is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), the first international member of Certified Social Work Managers (CSWM), a member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI), a Certified ISO Auditor and a Fellow of Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association. With three scholarships, Ming-sum earned his PhD at the University of Toronto. His doctoral research was on the construction of a culturally sensitive model of social work supervision. The research interests of Ming-sum are related to social work supervision, human service management, human capital development, theory and practice of social work, and substance abuse. He has published 129 items of research works, including 12 books, e.g. ''Social Work Supervision: Contexts and Concepts'' (Sage, 2005) and ''Social Work Supervision: Theories, Practice and Reflections'' (co-authored with Dr. Wui-shing Ho, published in Chinese), and 60 refereed journal articles.
